The ND example – success, failures and lessons • Singida has been free of ND for three years leading to reduced chicken mortality • Flock size results show significant increase from 16.5 to 21.2 and more than 90% of HHs vaccinate three consecutive times in Singida for the last three year • High impact in terms of knowledge and attitude towards ND control, nutritional knowledge about chicken products , increase in numbers of chickens and eggs sold, exchanged and consumed by the family • Extension materials dealing with ND control and village chicken production reviewed, updated, produced and distributed. • Extension staff involved in preparation, implementation and monitoring for ND vaccination campaigns trained • I-2 ND vaccine used in many areas beyond those involved with project • Adoption of the ND control model by other districts councils in the Singida region (Up scaling of the technology) AIFSC Food Security across Africa — Bridging research and practice Sydney, Australia 28/11-01/12/2012
