Titles The Union Territory of Pondicherry comprises of four districts namely Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. The four regions are separated from each other by a distance of 150 kms to 840 kms. Pondicherry and Karaikal are parts of Tamil Nadu culturally and linguistically and Tamil is the main language. Mahe and Yanam are embedded in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, where Malayalam and Telugu are the languages spoken respectively.

Schools: 430 • All management Schools : 717 • Total Students at Elementary Level :-1,75,290
Achievements of Education Dept • All Primary schools are having Pre primary classes • Tops in Educational Development Index – (0.870) (EDI) for consequently four years in EDI by NUEPA • Provides milk to the Students in the morning • Runs Exclusive Bus facilities for Students at Rs. 1
Achievements of SSA • All eligible habitations are provided with Schools as per Norms • SSA contributed significant role in fulfilling construction of classroom rooms in all schools • CCE implemented in 2012-13 – Rank card • Leader ship training given to 35 Head Teacher – in association with British Council • Shiksha Ka HaqAbhiyan successfully completed • Transparency in fund allocation to school – web hosting • Reading corner in Schools – to improve the Reading habits • Science Exhibition at Primary – Unique – Exclusive with theme of Water, Air ….for each year - Zonal level
Achievements of SSA Comprehensive Eye Screening (preventive & curative) was started two years back in association with Aravind Eye Hospital. 72134 students were screened. 2193 spectacles were given 15 operations performed. The Simplified Activity Based learning cards were designed for English Medium Classes Drawing Books was designed, Printed and issued to all Students
SPECIAL TRAINING • 252 covered under Special Training • 227 mainstreamed • 30 directly enrolled • Transport facility provided to 58 students • Learning materials developed for Spl. Training • 341 OoSC to be provided Spl. Training in 2013-14
Quality Improvement B1. Improving infrastructure • 437additional classrooms were constructed with SSA funds; 62classrooms construction is in pipeline. • Drinking water facilities provided in 392 schools and 4 in progress. • Toilets facilities constructed in 407schools . • 6new primary schools made operational • 6BRCs and 25 CRCs were constructed and 9 are in progress. • Completed the construction of 6550 running meters of compound wall
Quality Improvement B2 IMPROVING LEARNING LEVEL OF STUDENTS • SABL adopted in all Tamil medium schools. • SABL cards in Tamil translated in English and to be implemented in • English medium schools from the year 2013-14. • CCE implemented in all Govt. schools. Related Manual Supplied to • Schools • CCE rank card developed by mentor teachers. • Drawing books designed and supplied for all students at primary level.
Bridging gap in gender, social & region 1. Girl students • All schools in upper primary level with counsellingassistants to address their physio-psycho problems. • Girls in UP classes given Vocational skill development training and LSD. • Field trips
2. SC/ST & minority students • Field trips & study tours • Summer camps for personality development. • Training programme for madarassa teachers • Parents camp for upper primary girl students
4.PRE- PRIMARY EDUCATION • Puducherry is unique in having pre-primary sections in all schools – student strength is almost equal to Standard I enrollment. • 158 qualified teachers engaged at pre primary sections • Attractive learning material and play material supplied. • Health cards introduced.
5. Computer Aided Education • Minimum of five computers to each school having upper primary sections. • Minimum of two computers to each primary school. • Broad band internet facilities provided to all primary & upper primary schools. • AMC provided for 2248 computers till last year. 48 Educational CDs produce and supplied to schools. • SIT in 21 schools.
Outcomes of Community Participation • SMC constituted in 426 schools. • Out of school children were enrolled in school by their friends (school going children) • CWSN children were identified and enrolled in regular schools located nearly. • Children punishment in schools particularly in private schools is minimized.
Shiksha ka HaqAbhiyan • Undertaken in all the 4 districts. • RTE awareness meeting were organized for students, teachers and parents in schools. • Various competitions were conducted for upper primary students. • Selected students were allowed to speak in morning assembly continuously 3/4 days about the RTE Act.
Shiksha ka HaqAbhiyan Continued… • Mass Rally and street play were organized in habitation area of the school. Volunteers distributed the notice to the public. • Distribution of DVD to school about the RTE act and various intervention songs and related power point presentations. • Peer group training and Role play were organized at block level about the Shiksha ka Haq Abhiyan
Inclusive Education for (Disabled) Differently Abled • Identification of children with special needs (CWSN) through medical camps. • Financial assistance for corrective surgery. • Engagement of special teachers to facilitate the learning of special need children. • CBR volunteers from NGO’s visiting home based students in regular phase • Disabled friendly atmosphere created in schools – Ramps & rails. • Mega sports meet exclusively for disabled children -450 children participated in 134 events.
PROPOSAL FOR APPRAISAL • Free Text Book - Rs.187.54 lakhs • Uniform - Rs.373.18 lakhs • No fund sanctioned for Puducherry for RtE implementation in the 13th Finance commission award • AMC - Rs. 18.06 lakhs • Internet charges - Rs. 13.06 lakhs if not provided the computer supplied to schools will not serve the purpose of its installation in schools.
PROPOSAL FOR APPRAISAL Civil works • The above said proposals are essential from the RtE context.
