Music FREE AT LAST (to the tune of) : "this old man" This young man had a dream; In his eye he had a gleam. We must love each other to survey; Let us keep his dream alive. He believed man was good; He had dreams of brotherhood. We must love each other to survive; Let us keep his dream alive. All join hands, let us sing; Let the bells of freedom ring.We must love each other to survive; Let us keep his dream alive. We can learn from the past; Then we'll all be "FREE AT LAST!"We must love each other to survive; Let us keep his dream alive http://www.songsforteaching.com/holiday/onthe4thofjuly.htm http://www.songsforteaching.com/holiday/columbusdaysong.htm
Poetry IN 1492 In fourteen hundred ninety-twoColumbus sailed the ocean blue. He had three ships and left from Spain; He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain. He sailed by night; he sailed by day;He used the stars to find his way. A compass also helped him knowHow to find the way to go. Ninety sailors were on board; Some men worked while others snored. Then the workers went to sleep; And others watched the ocean deep. Day after day they looked for land; They dreamed of trees and rocks and sand. October 12 their dream came true,You never saw a happier crew! “Indians! Indians!” Columbus cried; His heart was filled with joyful pride. But “India” the land was not;It was the Bahamas, and it was hot. The Arakawa natives were very nice; They gave the sailors food and spice. Columbus sailed on to find some goldTo bring back home, as he’d been told. He made the trip again and again,Trading gold to bring to Spain. The first American? No, not quite. But Columbus was brave, and he was bright. A Nation Free Today is a time for fireworks and funBut we shouldn’t forget its reason. This is one of the most important daysof the entire summer season.Today’s the day our nation became freeand the date of the country’s birth. For so many years we have grown to beone of the best countries on earth.
