Week 3. The Paragraph. A paragraph consists of several sentences that are grouped together.  This group of sentences together discuss one main subject.  Paragraphs have three principal parts.  These three parts are the Topic Sentence , Supporting Details and the Closing Sentence .

  2. The Paragraph A paragraph consists of several sentences that are grouped together.  This group of sentences together discuss one main subject.  Paragraphs have three principal parts.  These three parts are the Topic Sentence , Supporting Details and the Closing Sentence.

  4. Topic Sentence • What is the topic sentence?The topic sentence is the first sentence in a paragraph. • What does it do?It introduces the main idea of the paragraph. • How do I write one?Summarize the main idea of your paragraph. Indicate to the reader what your paragraph will be about.

  5. Supporting Details • What are supporting sentences?They come after the topic sentence, making up the body of a paragraph. • What do they do?They give details to develop and support the main idea of the paragraph. • How do I write them?You should give supporting facts, details, and examples.

  6. Closing Sentence • What is the closing sentence?The closing sentence is the last sentence in a paragraph. What does it do?It restates the main idea of your paragraph. • How do I write one?Restate the main idea of the paragraph using different words.

  8. Descriptive Paragraph In a descriptive paragraph, you are writing about what a person, place, or thing is like. Sometimes, you may describe where a place is located. The purpose of descriptive writing is to make our readers see, feel, and hear what we have seen, felt, and heard. Whether we are describing a person, a place, or a thing, our aim is to reveal a subject through vivid and carefully selected details.
