Welcome to the BTMS@S Back to School Night Room C210 6th Grade Mathematics Mrs. Winkelspecht & Miss Stillwagon Curriculum: Connected Mathematics Tonight’s Objective: Become familiar with policies and procedures of your child’s math class
Daily Routine • Come in, take out materials • Write down homework in agenda—always posted on the homework board • Take out last night’s homework, if applicable • Read objective and complete warm up—always written on front board • Teacher’s check homework, and currently initial agenda books • Whole group instruction, small group work, whole group closure
Rules in Room C210 1. Raise your hand and wait to be called on. 2. Respect others. 3. Keep your hands, feet, and belongings to yourself. 4. Come to class with a positive attitude and prepared to learn. 5. Have fun!
Connected Math • PrimeTime (factors, multiples) • Data About Us (data and graphing) • Bits and Pieces I (fractions, decimals, percents) • Shapes and Designs (polygon properties, angles) • Bits and Pieces II (discounts, operations with fractions and decimals) • Covering & Surrounding (area & perimeter) • How Likely Is It (probability)
Organization • Composition notebooks: 1 per unit, extras remain in locker • All assignments completed in order by date • 1 notebook quiz each unit • Accordion File Folder: used instead of separate folders—must keep starred papers! • Agenda Book: Necessary at all times! • HW written down every day (even if “none”) • Hall passes in agenda • Complete material list handed out to students--can be found on website
Locker Schedule • Arrival—directly to locker • Seated in HR by 8:00 • Attend 1st & 2nd (related arts) • Locker for gym clothes drop off only • Attend 3/4 Academic • Locker • Attend Lunch • Locker • Attend 6/7 Academic • Attend 8/9 Academic • Locker
BTMS Grading Scale • 90-100% = A • 80-89% = B • 70-79% = C • 65-69% = D • 64 – below =F
BTMS Grading Policy • 60% Test grades (at least two each marking period) • 20% Quiz grades (at least four each marking period) • 20% Homework (approx. 10-15 each marking period) and class participation • HW: completed, on time=100%; 1 day late or incomplete=75%; more than 1 day late=0
Homework • Updated on webpage (handout links) • Must give best effort, even if student doesn’t completely understand • 100% will be given for evidence of best effort • HW are not typically collected, but reviewed as a class • Pay attention & ask questions while reviewing HW in class
Extra Help • Homework help links on hw webpage • Online notes and examples for each unit • After school study sessions before test (permission slip required) • Peer Tutoring Club • Homework Hotline • Blog page may be coming…
