NGAC Purpose • The Committee will provide advice and recommendations on federal geospatial policy and management issues and provide a forum to convey views representative of partners in the geospatial community • Under Federal Advisory Committee Act rules, will function solely as an advisory body, providing recommendations on effective management of Federal geospatial programs. In particular, it will provide advice on the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI). *NGAC Charter, January 2008

NGAC Mission Statement • To provide strategies regarding the creation, management and dissemination of cohesive geospatial data, information and knowledge to enable commercial, academic, and nonprofit organizations and all levels of government to more effectively: • Empower and serve the public • Protect our homeland • Foster economic growth • Advance science • Manage our resources • Prepare for and respond to emergencies • Govern our nation * Adopted by NGAC, June 2008

  4. Communications Goals External Focus: • Enhance visibility of NGAC • Demonstrate mission critical importance of geospatial information • Generate stakeholder awareness and act as a vehicle for input to the committee

  5. Target Audiences • Stakeholder groups represented by NGAC members • Geospatial Community of Practice • Government leaders and decision-makers who might use geospatial information to address issues, solve problems and make decisions • Geospatial Community of Interest

Key Messages • NGAC commits to an action agenda • NGAC is key venue for providing external stakeholder advice and recommendations on geospatial issues to federal agencies • Focus on common goals to advance the NSDI and build a sense of community • Open and welcome input and participation from stakeholder groups • Commitment to the community and advancing the geospatial agenda • Core values - focus, collaborative, action

  7. National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC) is committed to an action agenda to fulfill its role as an advisory committee to the federal government on geospatial policy and management issues. Under the leadership of NGAC Chair Anne Miglarese and the guidance set forth by FGDC Chair Jim Cason, the FACA Committee is taking action on a number of initiatives. Committee members are producing a transition briefing on geospatial issues and opportunities for the incoming administration, writing a white paper describing the changing landscape of geospatial technology and its importance, providing feedback and recommendations on critical geospatial issues and priorities, and developing a national strategy to guide the geospatial community of practice.  For more information about the NGAC, visit: www.fgdc.gov/ngac.
