OBJECTIVES • To expose students to the 'real' working environment and get acquainted with the organization structure, business operations and administrative functions. • To have hands-on experience in the students’ related field so that they can relate and reinforce what has been taught at the university.
OBJECTIVES • To foster cooperation and to develop synergetic collaboration between industry and the university in promoting a knowledge economy. • To set the stage for future recruitment by potential employers.
PRE-REQUISITE for BAC4614 • A minimum of 100 credit hours from passed courses and credit transferred courses, inclusive of total credit hours for Tri 2, 2010/2011.
Calculation of credit hours Subjects that can be counted as credit hour: • A. Subject taken and 1. Pass with grade A, B or C or 2. Pass with PS • B. Subjects not taken but granted credit transfer Subjects NOT to be counted as the credit hour: • Subject with grade : F, FL, U, W, I
PRACTICAL TRAINING PROGRAM • Practical training for 6 CALENDAR months (24 weeks or >). • Commencing date: 1 March 2011 onwards. • Once the offer is accepted: • Withdrawal is not allowed • Subject to the respective Firm’s Rules and Regulation
PLACEMENT LOCATIONS • Placement: Student’s own choice • For Audit Firm: Any Firm registered with MIA and located in Malaysia (including Sabah and Sarawak) • For Commercial Company: The immediate supervisor must be a MIA member • For Government Department: The immediate supervisor must be a MIA member
PLACEMENT LOCATIONS • For international students: • Allowed to apply for firm in your home country. • Verification on the firm will be made by the student’s home country Embassy.
PROCEDURES • Call up the firm before sending out the application letters. • Find out whether there is a vacancy for trainees. • If the firm has vacancies, you have to ask for the person in charge. The person in charge may be from the HR department, training department, or any other departments of the firm.
PROCEDURES • Try to get the name of the person so that you can address the letter to the person in charge correctly in your application letter. • Letter without complete information (either information about yourself or the company) may result in not getting any reply from the company.
PROCEDURES • Pre Placement Registration Documents: • (a) Student Status Confirmation Letter • (b) Cover Letter • (c) Application Form • (d) Company Confirmation Letter • Academic Transcript (The Online Version is sufficient) • Reply envelope (WITH STAMP!!)
PROCEDURES • Refer to Flow chart. • Choose a firm. • Fill up the four (4) documents (refer to FBL websites on BAC 4614). • Submit your documents to Ms. Rushayati for checking and recording (Both the original and photocopied copy). You will be assigned with a reference number. • The documents will be sent to the coordinators for further checking and signature. • If the documents are free from errors, the signed copy will be returned to the student.
PROCEDURES • Send the 4 documents to the firm directly. • Wait for the firm’s response. • If you don’t get a response from the firm within/ about 2 weeks or so, give them a call and enquire on your application status. • Don’t wait until the last minute! It is your responsibility to contact and follow-up with the firm(s) of your choice. • Repeat the same procedures for the 2nd firm (if applicable).
Attention!! • Please do not submit the application forms to the firm without following the procedures. Marks will be deducted when irregularities are found during the application stage as well as during the training period.
GRADING: PASS or FAIL The training is graded based on: • Employer's Evaluation : 25% • Weekly reports : 25% • Final Report: 50% • Total: 100% • <50% FAIL • FAIL: re-take BAC4614
DEDUCTIONS OF MARKS • Marks to be deducted on the following issues: • When the student obtains more than one firm’s offer and fail to inform the firm whose offer he/she decides to reject; • Asking for a change of firm after the offer is confirmed; • Not adhering to the standard application procedures; • Not adhering to the planned schedule.
IMPORTANT DATES • 1.) Training Period : 1 March 2011 until 30 August 2011 • 2.)Documents submission date - Latest by 20 Dec 2010 (before 5 p.m.) to Ms Rushayati • 3.) Offer Confirmation: Due on 27 Dec 2010 • 4.) Final Report Submission : Due on 15 Sept 2011 (before 5pm) • 5.) Second Briefing: 19 January 2011
COURSE REGISTRATION • FBL will register for all students doing BAC 4614, provided you have seen your AA.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE • If a student quits the program after its commencement, • NOT ALLOWED to register for any subjects offered in Tri 2, 2010/2011; • He/she has to apply for “Leave of Absence” for that trimester, subject to the Dean’s approval; • Appeal will be looked into on case by case basis
