Program Objectives To expose students to the 'real'working environment and get acquainted with the organization structure, business operations and administrative functions. To have hands-on experience in the students’ related field so that they can relate and reinforce what has been taught at the university. To foster cooperation and to develop synergetic collaboration between industry and the university in promoting a knowledge economy. To set the stage for future recruitment by potential employers.
Pre-requisite for BAC4614 • A minimum of 100 credit hours from passed courses and credit transferred courses, inclusive of total credit hours of Tri 2 2013/2014 Practical Training Program • Practical training for 6 CALENDER MONTHS (24 weeks or more) • Commencing date: 1st March 2014 Onwards • Once the offer is accepted: • Withdrawal is not allowed • Subject to the respective Firm’s rules and regulations
Calculation of Credit Hours • Subjects that can be counted as credit hours • Subject taken and • Pass with grade A, B, or C or • Pass with PS • Subjects not taken but granted credit transfer • Subjects NOT to be counted as the credit hours • Subject with grade : F, FL, U, W, I
Placement Location • Placement : Student’s Own Choice • Audit Firm: Any firm registered with MIA and located in Malaysia (including Sabah and Sarawak) • Commercial Company: The immediate supervisor must be a MIA member • Government Department:The immediate supervisor must be a MIA member
Procedures • Call up the firm before sending out the application letters. • Find out whether there is a vacancy for trainees. • If the firm has vacancies, you have to ask for the person in charge. The person in charge may be from HR department, Training department, or any other departments of the firm. • Try to get the name of the person so that you can address the letter to the person in charge correctly in your application letter. • Letter without complete information (either information about yourself or the company) may result in not getting any reply from the company
Procedures • Pre Placement Registration Documents: • (a) Confirmation Letter on Student Status • (b) Cover Letter • (c) Application Form • (d) Company Confirmation Letter • Academic Transcript (Online Version is sufficient) • Reply envelope (WITH STAMP)
Procedures • Refer to Flow chart. • Choose a firm (MIA Audit Firm Database) • Fill up the four (4) documents (refer to FOB websites on BAC 4614 Practical Training). • Submit original copies of the (4) documents and transcripts to either the Practical Training Coordinators for checking and signature. You will be assigned with a reference number. • If the documents are free from errors, the signed copy will be returned to the student.
Procedures • Send the 4 documents to the firm directly. • Wait for the firm’s response. • If you don’t get a response from the firm within/ about 2 weeks or so, give them a call and enquire on your application status. • Don’t wait until the last minute! It is your responsibility to contact and follow-up with the firm(s) of your choice. • Repeat the same procedures for the 2nd firm (if applicable).
Attention!! • Please do not submit the application forms to the firm without following the procedures. • Marks will be deducted when irregularities are found during the application stage as well as during the training period.
Grading: Pass or Fail Practical Training is graded based on: • Employer's Evaluation : 25% • Weekly reports : 25% • Final Report: 50% • Total: 100% • MARKS WILL BE ASSIGNED WITH A GRADE <50% FAIL FAIL: re-take BAC4614
Deductions of Marks Marks to be deducted on the following issues: • When student obtains more than one firm’s offer and fail to inform the firm whose offer he/she decides to reject; • Asking for a change of firm after the offer is confirmed; • Not adhering to the standard application procedures; • Not adhering to the planned schedule.
IMPORTANT DATES • Training Period: 1st March 2014 until 30th August 2014 • Documents submission date: Latest by 3th January 2014 (before 5 p.m.) to Ms Mas / Pn Asma • Offer Confirmation: Due on 10th January 2014 • Final Report Submission: Due on 12th September 2014 (before 5pm) • Second Briefing: 21th January 2014
Course Registration • Effective this semester Student is required to register the subject BAC 4614 Practical Training. • Registration of the subject is to be done in Tri 3 2013/2014 before the commencement of the practical training. • For the following Trimester 1 2014/2015 the registration will be automatically done by the ERU/system
Leave of Absence If a student quits the program after its commencement, • NOT ALLOWEDto register for any subjects offered in Tri 3, 2013/2014; • He/she has to apply for “Leave of Absence” for that trimester, subject to the Dean’s approval; • Appeal will be looked intoon case by case basis.
