NWUA • NWUA formed 1999 in response to formation of the NWDA and development of regional agendas • Representative body of the15 Higher Education Institutions in the North West
REMIT • Promotion of the sector in the region • Role in developing regional policy • Lobbying (national and European) • Identifying and facilitating collaboration
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES Four activity-related strategic groups • Research Strategy Group • Enterprise Group (‘reach-out’ agenda) • Widening Participation & Skills Strategy Group • Learning & Teaching Strategy Group Two subject-related strategic groups: • Health & Social Care Strategy Group • Culture, Media & Sports Strategy Group
NWUA Strategy GroupsTerms of Reference • Act as advocates & ambassadors of HEIs collectively • Collective voice and point of liaison • Develop intra and inter regional partnerships • Oversee regional HE input into regional bodies, initiatives and consultations • Disseminate and share good practice • Consider opportunities for regional collaboration where this adds value

JISCRegional Co-ordination of Bids Report to date: • Perhaps 3 strategically linked proposals in 3 greater sub-regions • Number of institutions require >£350k OR • Option for a single thematic bid – require clear boundaries for negotiation
