Intervention vs. Lesson • In a lesson, the teacher is responding to the subject matter-An intervention responds to the student-through the subject matter.
3 Elements to the intervention • Each phase consists of a Background section, a “Target of Intervention” section, and an “Intervening Actions” section-These sections must be labeled in your intervention • Each phase must build off of what was established in the prior phase. • You may write one comprehensive Background section which covers all three phases.
Outline • Phase I • Background (Comprehensive) • Target of Intervention • Intervening Actions • Phase II • Target of Intervention • Intervening Actions • Phase III • Target of Intervention • Intervening Actions
BAckground • What you know about the problem and why it poses such a threat to both a teacher and students’ effort to be successful in school. • Why this problem exists and understand • Why it must be effectively addressed before success in school can take place with students who have this problem.
Why do some students have no purpose for Education? What are the in-school and outside of school reasons?
Target of Intervention • In this section you are to describe the specific element of the problem for which your intervention/phase will create improvement. For example, students who have no purpose for education often have no sense of a “future”.
Identify targets of intervention and discuss how you would address them in your subject area
Intervening Actions • This section will explain what curricular steps you will take in order to address the problem. In other words, you will create an instructional experience in your discipline, which will teach important content about your subject area and address the target of intervention which you have identified.
