City of Leon Valley: Small City - Big Recycling Programs Recycling began in the City over 20 years ago with one of the State of Texas’ first curbside programs City established a committee of “Champions” for the cause, called the “Earthwise Living Committee” City celebrates Earthwise Living Day each February Committee provides education to the local community and collaborates with the Bexar County, AACOG, SARA, CPS Energy, City of San Antonio, SAWS, Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy and others on their outreach programs

City of Leon Valley: Small City - Big Recycling Programs City committed to sustainability in 2007 with their “El Verde by 2020” program City started Office Recycling at City Facilities City passed an Ordinance in 2009 to require recycling at all of the City’s Special Events City requires their franchise hauler to offer commercial cardboard collection City works with their hauler to recycle curbside brush City offers public oil recycling at City Public Works Yard City offers multi-family and commercial recycling drop off box at the Public Works Yard

City of Leon Valley: Small City - Big Recycling Programs City received a “Green Bag” grant in 2008 from KTB/H-E-B to reduce plastic bag use City received a Sustainability grant in 2008 from the AIA to assess City & develop projects City received a recycling grant from AACOG to promote recycling at their 20th Anniversary of Earthwise Living Day (February 2009) City working with franchise hauler to enhance curbside recycling program with the use of carts to increase recycling
