However, Duolingo does not make any claims about promoting intercultural competence or cultural awareness, only that it can serve as a language tutor. This may be problematic to those who espouse sociocultural approaches to language learning and teaching in which language and culture are considered inseparable concepts” (Teske 2017:398)
