Pilot Course 1 • Theories and Methods study group: 1) 16 articles on theories and methodologies of film studies, and discussions (1 article / class) 2) 1 article introduction + leading a discussion 3) Preparation for discussions + active participation during the classes 4) Written feedback + evaluation of learning • All course materials are in English • Due to the challenging course materials the study group has to be conducted by a teacher. • The study group has been arranged once → language mostly Finnish
Pilot Course 2 Basics of Media Education – 4 ECTS • Introduction to the methods and challenges of media education • Lectures and/or Literature • Activity Examples • assess media coverage of natural disasters and their aftermath • investigate media gender portrayal for discussion • essay based on area of interest including theory • prepare/try out materials and activities for target groups
Resources • Option 1 (ideal): • Film Studies Lecturer • Course Tutor • Extra funding for course planning and translations • Option 2 (realistic?): • Film Studies Lecturer • Course Tutor who receives extra credits/points • In order to be able to develop a permanent minor subject offered in English on a regular basis the project should be funded, however.
