How Do Sonic Horns Work? ANALYTEC CORPORATION • Sonic Horn Operation • Excited Air Molecules • How Do Particles Flow? Tomorrow’s Cleaning Solutions…TODAY!
Sonic Horn Operation ANALYTEC CORPORATION • Compressed air enters the diaphragm housing, flexes the titanium diaphragm and exits the bell. As the air passed by the diaphragm the pressure reduces enough that the diaphragm claps back against the throat, creating sound that also exits the bell. The correctly designed bell, diaphragm housing internals and diaphragm produces the optimum frequency and power (dB). Tomorrow’s Cleaning Solutions…TODAY!

Founded In 1983 ANALYTEC CORPORATION The late Jim Wakeman brought the first audible sonic horns to the United States while employed with another company. After discovering several ways to improve sonic horn performance, maintainability and reliability he founded Analytec Corporation and started making his own horns with the improvements incorporated into their design. I guess Jim’s improvements have been proven good, as Analytec Corporation will be celebrating its 20th year anniversary next year, 2003. In addition, there are thousands of sonic horns installed around the world, faithfully serving their owners by providing effective acoustic cleaning, cost effectively over the years. James F. Participated in EPRI Fabric Filter Tests ANALYTEC CORPORATION EPRI Test Guidelines (fabric filter) 1.Sonic Horn Shall Meet At Least One (1) of The Following Requirements. A. Produce a minimum integrated sound pressure level of 133 dB between zero and 250 Hz. Integrated sound pressure shall be defined as the root mean square sum of the pressure taken over the frequency range. B. Produce a minimum power weighted mean frequency (PWMF) of less than 250 Hz. PWMF shall be defined as the logarithmic average of the frequency spectrum, weighted by the power at each frequency. 2. The number of sonic horns per compartment shall be designed and supplied to deliver a minimum average compartment energy level of 133 dBA. All sonic horns within one (1) compartment shall jointly supply between 80 and 160 Pa of sound pressure to all parts of the bags. Tomorrow’s Cleaning Solutions…TODAY!

Bellefield Boiler Plant ANALYTEC CORPORATION • PROBLEM - High opacity every time steam sootblowers were used, leading to regular fines. Reduced steam production when sootblowing was reduced to avoid fines. • SOLUTIONS – Installed 4 model 900 sonic horns in the back section of the boiler. Activate the horns every 30 minutes for 15 seconds. Tomorrow’s Cleaning Solutions…TODAY!
Benefits Realized ANALYTEC CORPORATION • Analytec Sonic Horns reduced their opacity to the point that they no longer receive fines. • The tubes are cleaner than ever before. • Steam production has increased. • They have eliminated the use of the steam sootblowers. • The need to install expensive air pollution control equipment downstream of the boilers has been delayed for an indefinite period. Xcel Energy – Comanche Station ANALYTEC CORPORATION • PROBLEM – Short bag life, load restriction, increased drag on induced draft fan and poor ash flow. • SOLUTION – Install the optimum (6) model 800 (125Hz) sonic horns in each of their 28 compartments, set the horn activation time at 2 seconds for normal load and 8 seconds for times of 110% loads. Tomorrow’s Cleaning Solutions…TODAY!
Benefits Realized ANALYTEC CORPORATION • Analytec Sonic Horns OPTIMIZE their baghouse operations by loosening more ash, allowing them to operate longer between cleaning cycles, extending their bag life, reducing ID Fan drag and lessening load restrictions. • By using both their Reverse-Gas cleaning and Analytec Sonic Horns they have the most effective cleaning system, even though either system could work independent of each other. • Most importantly the sonic horns keep their operating differential pressure between 2 – 4 inches w.g. instead of the previous 10 – 12 inches w.g.
