BackgroundFew Facts • International • The regionalization and globalization of commerce, capital, communications and immigration have profound political implications. Nation-states are losing much of their traditional power to control what happens within their borders. That has both desirable and undesirable effects. • India • India is home to the highest number of under-nourished people in the world, and one-third of the world’s under-weight children. Public spending on Health in India as a %of GDP is less than in countries like Sri Lanka and Sierra Leone. Currently India spends close to 3% of its GDP on Education and less than 1% of its GDP on Health.

WHY THIS CONCEPT? • Government of India has offered land and money in development of: • Art & Cultural Centres • Religious Institutions (like -Akshardam, ISKON,etc.) • Educational Institutions & Deemed Universities • Sports Complexes • Hospitals • Free Legal-Aid Centres • Various Trusts & NGOs • However, not done anything specific in the areas of Human Rights & Human Development • India is ranked 126 under the Medium Human Development Index out of 177 countries • The task of development became overwhelmingly challenging on the part of the Government. Citizens grew poor and poorer with alarming scarcity of goods and lack of sufficient provision of services.
