Industry Partnership Program • What is your long term Vision of CPMT Industry Partnership Program spanning a decade or two, if we were to create this? • Given this vision, what is your strategy spanning 5 or more years to address your vision for Industry Partnership? • What should we do in the next year or two? • What would you suggest we include in the 2001 Budget? • Is there anything that must be done in 2000? 10/3/1999, Newark
Industry Partnership Program • The trend of the industry • The needs of the industry • Recommend or work with other areas to turn into planning and execution • Present • Ron Gedney, Corey Koehler, Tony Chan, Ralph Wyndrum 10/3/1999, Newark
Industry Partnership Program • Observation: • OEMs offloading mfg to EMS • OEM (7-10%R&D) --> EMS (<1%) --> Offshore • R&D shortfall offset by Roadmapping to focus remaining development; Industry & University Consortia stretch development $. But much development will follow mfg. Off-shore • Recommend: • Increase global chapters and increase global participation in BoG • Action item: study constitutional change; make use of chapter meeting; travel expense for overseas; Segelken will coordinate ad hoc CP, Wydrum, suhir, Segelken, Putlittz, Garrou, Dave Palmer, Ralph Russell • more conferences overseas (through chapters or capture existing overseas conferences) • more packaging courses overseas • CMPT follows the work 10/3/1999, Newark
Industry Partnership Program • Observation: Integration • Single chip will contain total system, less packaging • More photonics, more software • Only front end packaging technology and system design in US • Recommend: Strengthen ties • ED • LEOS • SSCC (Solid State Circuit Council) 10/3/1999, Newark
Industry Partnership Program • Recommend: • Education to meet the new needs • Publication on strategy and tutorial 10/3/1999, Newark
