Choral Reading- For who? • Best for intermediate readers • Can be used once a group or grade level is proficient in reading • Can be done with whole group or small group • Can also be done in mixed grade levels and proficiency levels
Materials Whole group of students or small pair of students Enough books or passages for each individual student to read from
Why Choral Reading • Provides less skilled readers or English language learners the opportunity to practice and receive support • Helps those students see words while hearing them to build a connection to words • Models pronunciation • Helps build confidence • Helps to develop a joy of reading
How To Use Choral Reading • Pick appropriate books/passage for grade or reading level • Model reading the story aloud for fluency depending on grade/reading level • Be sure to have enough copies of book/passage for children to follow along during modeling and then to have for whole group reading • Have children use their finger to follow along with the text as they read and as you read • Do the whole group or small group read aloud(choral reading)
