  2. Cell Theory • Cells are the basic units of life. • Living things are made of one or more cells. • All cells come from existing cells.

  3. Animal Cells • Cell membrane • Nucleus • Cytoplasm • Mitochondria • Vacuole • Endoplasmic Reticulum • Ribosome • Lysosomes

  4. Cell Membrane and Nucleus Cell membrane- surrounds cells, holding parts together Nucleus- directs all activities that are produced by the cell.

  5. Mitochondria and Vacuole • Mitochondria- changes chemical energy of food in a substance that cells can use. • Vacuole- contains fluid and is surrounded by a membrane. Stores water and nutrients and digest food.

  6. Cytoplasm and Endoplasmic Reticulum • Cytoplasm- material between the nucleus and cell membrane, fluid that contains the organelles. • Endoplasmic Reticulum- Serves as a transportation system; makes protein.

  7. Ribosomes and Lysosomes • Ribosomes- found in the endoplasmic reticulum; begins the process of making protein • Lysosomes- contains powerful chemicals that break down harmful molecules and recycle worn-out cell parts.

  10. Plant Cells • Cell wall • Cell membrane • Nucleus • Mitochondria • Vacuole • Chloroplasts

  11. Cell Wall and Cell Membrane • Cell Wall- surrounds cell membrane, it gives extra support. • Cell Membrane- surrounds cell holding parts together.

  12. Nucleus and Mitochondria • Nucleus- directs cell activities; is the control center of the cell • Mitochondria- converts chemical energy of food into a form that cells can use.

  13. Vacuole and Chloroplasts • Vacuole- stores water and nutrients and helps the cell digest food. • Chloroplasts- contain chlorophyll which gives plants green color, plants make food when sunlight strikes chlorophyll.

  14. What are the six parts of the plant cell.?

  15. They are! • Cell wall • Cell membrane • Nucleus • Mitochondria • Vacuole • Chloroplasts
