Functions • Center for Speech Control • Controls Language • Skilled-hand movements • Controls the right sided body movements • In charge of how we think logically and pulls out facts from our memories. • Analytical, objective, and looks at the parts of a thing first, before assembling it into a whole.

  4. Behavioral Traits • Thinks in sequential order • Makes decisions based on logic • Planned and structure • Good Memory • Sees Cause and Effect • Good at processing symbols • Deals with things as they are

Research • An experiment was done in the 1960 to surgically divide the two hemispheres in an attempt to control epilepsy. • This allowed scientist to study how each half of the brain was individually specialized for cognitive function . • It was found if the right eye saw something, the person wouldn’t be able to say what that thing was without the information being sent to the left brain.

  7. In current studies we find that information must be directly transferred to the left brain for it to be processed correctly. • A present study is going on to determine how communications between the left and right brain work.

Left Brain Injury • Difficulties understanding language • Difficulties in speaking • Verbal memory problems • Impaired Logic • Sequencing difficulties • Decreased control over right sided body movements. • A stroke would be an example of damage to the left brain resulting in paralysis of the right side of the body.
