Henrik Ibsen: • Born in Skien, Norway 1828 • Spent much of his early life living in poverty • Believed that husband and wife should live as equals • For A Doll’s House, he was attacked by critics who claimed that Ibsen was being disrespectful to the institution of marriage (1879) • A Doll’s House showcases Ibsen’s concern for women’s rights in general
