How big are Tomato Frogs? • Adult Tomato Frogs are REALLY BIG!!!! Males are about 2 ½” long, while females can get up to 3-4”. That is not nose to toes, that’s body length!
The Coloring of Tomato frogs • Most females range from reddish-orange & bright dark red. Their stomachs are usually more yellowish, and sometimes there are black dots on their throats. • Males tend to be dully colored, being a duller orange or brownish-orange. • Young tomato frogs are also dull in color and develop brighter coloration as they get older.
Their Habitat • These guys need a soft substance to burrow in. If they start a brownish color, it is generally a sign of having an un-happy tomato frog.
Their Diet • Tomato frogs prefer to have all sorts of bugs and invertebrates. Some of them are crickets, wax worms and even mice! • We think it is very cool that Tomato frogs eat mice! Mice are BIG!
More Facts on Tomato Frogs • When spooked, they can inflate their body like a balloon! • The tomato frog lives in Madagascar & is limited to the North-West part of the island.
