Firearms Safety • Four cardinal rules of firearms safety • Treat ALL firearms as if they were loaded • Never point a firearm at anyone or anything that is not an intended target • Keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until on target • Know your target and what is beyond your target

  3. Firearms Safety There is no room for “Accidents” when handling firearms!!! What is the #1 range safety rule ? SAFETY !!!!!

  4. Firearms Safety Rules • Number one safety is individual handling • Point muzzle in safe direction • Never point at anyone w/out justification • Always inspect firearm status when picking up • Carry and transport safely • DO NOT PLAY WITH FIREARM • Inspect for obstruction • Secure when not in use

  5. Firearms Safety Rules • Use correct ammunition • Inspect ammo for defects • Unload when not in use • Inspect safety devices • Eye and ear protection • Repairs and alterations done by gunsmith • Understand characteristics / handling of firearm

  6. General Range Rules • Obey all commands IMMEDIATELY ! • Never point firearm above eye level • Point firearm downrange when (un)loading • Only load when told to do so • “CEASE FIRE” • Loaded firearm pointed downrange • Only handles firearm at direct of instructor • NO TALKING on firing line • Only move downrange when instructed • Finger only in trigger guard when intending to pull trigger ( balance, startle, etc.)
