Two-component wind rosette application by Petr Hanzlík
1 2 3 4 Dead, short, long, snow Solved problem Wind Column exposed toaxial force andwind force. Determine the pressure under four corners of the column footing.
The wind load is given by the wind rosette . It indicates the intensity of the wind and in what direction and how long the wind blows.
Each part of axial force is given by the characteristic value and it’s probability (histogram). The characteristic values of loads: - Snow load 100kN - Dead load 200kN - Long-lasting load 300kN - Short-lasting load 400kN
Solution In each simulation step every variable gets it’s value dependent upon it’s characteristic value and probability. In my case 500 000 simulations was made.
Total axial force is determined: The bending moment computed: Finally the pressure is determined:
probability 0,999 0,9999 pressure under 1st corner [kPa] 200,8 237,9 pressure under 2nd corner [kPa] 211,8 341,3 pressure under 3rd corner [kPa] 222,2 461,8 pressure under 4th corner [kPa] 197,6 214,8 Results The pressure under the four corners of column footing .
Pressure under 1st corner Pressure under 2nd corner
Pressure under 3rd corner Pressure under 4th corner
Considering the probability P=0.999 the maximum difference between stresses in corners (corner 3 and 4) is 12%. It was demonstrated that new type of wind rosette can be a powerfull tool in load effects calculation using SBRA method.
Conclusion Advantages of SBRA method: • Application of new type of wind rosette • Takes advantage of computers • Probabilistic approach
