  1. The lighting of the Menorah is the only Mitzvah that all Jews fulfill in the most enhanced way (מהדרין מן המהדרין).Any ideas why? Please write your suggested answer in the Do-now section of your paper.

At the end of this lesson, every student will be able to:1) Explain a new perspective on the root of the argument between Beis Shammai and Beis Hillel.2) explain a new perspective on why all Jews fulfill the Mitzvah of lighting the Menorah in the most enhanced way. Intended audience: 10th grade Talmud class

  5. The perspectives of Beis Shammai and Beis Hillel concerning what we follow: Beis Shammai: POTENTIAL - The G-Dly perspective of reality, higher than time and space. Beis Hillel: ACTUAL - The human perspective of reality, within the realms of time and space.

  6. The Halacha is in accordance with Beis Hillel, thus showing the superiority of the human perspective and experience in relation to Chanukah.This superiority is clearly expressed in the Yom-Tov of Chanukah, which was “created” by the Chachamim, humans. All others were either given by G-D or at least influenced by the Nevi’im. This is why we all celebrate Chanuka in the most enhanced way. It is the only Yom-Tov which is truly “ours”.
