  1. Aim: How can we create a video that demonstrates our understanding of JFK’s “We choose to go t the moon” speech? DO NOW: Answer the following question in your notebook. Why do you think Americans wanted to go to the moon?

  2. Agenda • Do Now • Summarize your section of JFK’s speech • Practice your part of the speech with a partner • Deliver your speech • Watch a rough replay of the speech and take notes

Why do you think Americans wanted to go to the moon? • Scientific inquiry • Prove the US is powerful • Prove the US can afford to ($) • Show the USSR that the US can complete scientific projects quickly and successfully • Because the USSR beat us into space, we had to put a person on the Moon first • Make it a battlefield for the Cold War

  4. What’s next? • You will be given a section of JFK’s “Space Race” speech • You have 10 minutes to read and paraphrase your section of the speech. • Partner with the person next to you to practice your delivery of your section of the speech. • Look on the back of your index card. Line up in order from 1 – 18.
