Digital Continuity Action Plan http://continuum.archives.govt.nz/digital-continuity-action-plan.html
1995 Background, why? how? • A need • Few $ • No developer resources, little experience
the tool JHOVE XML Filter Script DROID XML NLNZ XML custom XSLT “XML” file splitter script individual PREMIS “Object” XML files
the XSLT • matches on the file paths of scanned objects • makes use of (in particular): • the file format info from all tools • the checksums from JHOVE • file extension from NLNZ • environment info from NLNZ • PID and format registry info from DROID
problems/issues • limited by the harvesters • creates ‘object’ (not ‘PREMIS’) records • no GUI (cumbersome) • may not be scalable
uses / benefits • actually useful / implement in your repository • adopt the mappings from the tool outputs • simpler than “Fits” and produces PREMIS XML • illustrates the power of XML
Key points • The tool fulfils a particular need • Tools like this are relatively simple to create • XML is powerful and simple
