Pacific Alliance For Sustainability-Update • GEF-PAS consist of 24 projects, GEF Financing over US$98million • GEF PAS programme was approved at the last GEF Council meeting in April • GEF PAS has projects in the areas, of International Waters, Biodiversity, Climate Change Mitigation, Climate Change Adaptation, and Persistent Organic Pollutants

Pacific Alliance For Sustainability-Update Project Status-Following projects approved: 1-Micronesia Challenge-Full Project under review in GEF Sec 2-Integrated Water Supply Protection-Full project under review in GEF Sec 3-Coral Reef Triangle-Full project under review in GEF Sec 4-Action for the Development of Marshall Island Renewable Energy-Approved/CEO Endorsed

Pacific Alliance For Sustainability-Update 5-POPs monitoring in the Pacific-PIF Approved 6-Pacifc Adaptation to Climate Change –Full project under review in GEF Sec 7-NAPA Implementation Samoa-PIF/PPG Approved 8-POPs National Implementation Plan in the Cook Islands-Approved 9-Sustainable Economic Development through Renewable Energy in Palau- Approved

  9. Pacific Alliance For Sustainability-Update • Agencies will provide additional information on the status of the other projects. • Some projects are still under development-Many projects will not make the November council

  10. Pacific Alliance For Sustainability-Update • Meeting in Palau finalised the issues of governance structure of the PAS. ( see project document) • GEF is currently working with donors to organise a trust fund to facilitate coordination , monitoring and evaluation, and additional cofinancing

  11. Pacific Alliance For Sustainability-Update • Preliminary informal discussions have occurred with the GEF and SPREP with regards to coordination of the programme • Hopeful of having an initial meeting of GEF-PAS steering committee during the first half of 2009.
