VOCABULARY - words you need to know. • Versel : An individual letter. • Majuscule: A upper case versel. • Miniscule: A lower case versel. • Ascenders: the part of a versel that goes above the waist line. • Desenders: the part of a versel that goes below the writing line. • Scribe: any tool used to create versels. • Bowl: Curved part of a versel that fits between the waist and writing line. • Serif: the added on decoration stroke.
Care of Equipment. • India ink is permanent. WILL NOT WASH OUT! • Dip your pen into ammonia, swish around, rinse with water. • Then pat dry, and return to the box with the nib up. • Good work comes from good equipment. • Calligraphy will teach you PATIENCE, PRACTICE all the time. • Do not settle for your best effort, make your best better.
