Why GPP? EIPRO-Environmental Impact of Products “GPP is a process whereby public authorities seek to procure goods, services and works with a reduced environmental impact throughout their life cycle when compared to goods, services and works with the same primary function that would otherwise be procured.“ (17% of EU GDP)

Status in Member States • The latest study (2008) demonstrates that 7 EU MS (UK, DK, FI, NL, AU, DE, SE) have on average 45 % of the total value and 55 % of the total number of contracts in 2006/07 – green. • Analysis also points out that there is on average 1% decrease of costs when using GPP (LCC approach), and 25 % decrease of CO2 emissions

Ongoing activities • endorsement of common GPP criteria in national action plans and guidances • develop new GPP criteria in sinergy with existing frameworks (EU Ecolabel, Eco-design) • linking the GPP policy to other policies
