  1. Bell Work 4-13 What do you think of Draper’s writing style? Do you like it? Why or why not?

  2. Instructions • For each day’s reading do the following on a piece of binder paper. • Min 1/3 summary of chapter • Min 1/3 character analysis • Min 1/3 page theme analysis

  3. Analysis • Character analysis (approx. 1/3 page) • What did the characters do and say? • How did the characters react to what happened to them? Do you agree and why? • How did the characters change during the chapter? • Did your feelings about the characters change and why?

  4. Analysis • Theme analysis (approx. 1/3 page) • What themes are present? • How did the theme or themes affect what happened? • Was it effective and why?

  5. Write down the following questions and answer them on a separate piece of paper & include quotes from the story in your reply (pgs. 31-49) • What did you learn about Andy and his parents from the letter? • Why do you think Sharon Draper included so much gossip in the letter? • Why do you think Draper goes into the relationship between Andy and his parents a second time, and was it effective? • What clues are given that Andy is still struggling with the death of his best friend?

  6. Write down the following questions and answer them on a separate piece of paper & include quotes from the story in your reply • What surprised you the most about Andy’s talk with Dr. Caruthers and why? • How accurate are Andy’s views on race and why?
