  2. Today’s Objective • The diverse methods used to scan the bran: practical use that can aid doctors to determine psychological & medical issues.

  3. 1. Computed Tomography Scan (CT) • Uses X rays to get detailed pictures of body parts and the brain.

  4. Used for finding abnormalities in parts of your body and brain. EX.- Tumors, cysts, enlarged parts, cancers, foreign objects, internal bleeding. Help guide needles during biopsies. Like slices of bed. Images can be combined to create 3D images

  5. 2. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) • Uses a large magnet, combined with radio waves to take pictures of the head. • Show tissue damage, inflammation, tumors, blood flow.

  8. Used to check for decreased or increased brain activity which can indicate diseases such as Alzheimer’s, MS, Parkinson’s, stroke, schizophrenia & cancers.

  9. 4. Electroencephalograph (EEG) • Metal electrodes are placed all over your head to measure its brainwaves.

  10. Helps diagnose head injuries, infections, sleep disorders, investigate unconsciousness, and monitor the brain during surgery
