General Criteria for Selection of Materials • Relevance to the curriculum • Demand for materials in the subject area • Currency and expected longevity as valuable source • Appropriate content level for projected audience and use
Accuracy of information and data • Readability and clarity • Appropriateness of format • Literary merit and artistic quality • Scarcity of material on subject
Professional reviewing media recommendations • Price • Inclusion of bibliographies and indexes
Types and Formats of Materials Collected • Printed Books
Media Resources/AV materials • DVDs, CDs, slides, films
Electronic formats identical to print format of peer reviewed scholarly journals
Multi-format items • Books with computer disk
Gifts • Are welcomed and will be evaluated for the addition to the collection using the same policy used for the materials.
