  3. Rosetta Stone • Discovered in the 19th century by French soldiers. • A block of carved granite that deciphered the signs of Egypt- hieroglyphics.

  4. Hieroglyphs • Stand for sounds as opposed to whole words; the symbols are combined to make words. • Made up of picture symbols.
