  1. Psychologist Life, Physical, and Social Science Jessica Lipski Hour 4 5/5/14 Career/Technology Foundations

  2. Introduction “Hope is some extraordinary spiritual grace that God gives us to control our fears, not to oust them.” ~Vincent McNabb. This quote is saying that with hope, we can learn to control our fears, not getting rid of them completely. I became interested in psychology about a year ago. I’ve been going through an anxiety problem this past year and ever since it started I’ve been interested in helping people with the same or similar issues as me. I think it would be an amazing feeling to help someone control their fears. I will be researching the following six topic areas for my chosen career: nature of work, working conditions, training/qualifications/advancement, job outlook/employment, earnings, and a related or unrelated occupation. In doing so, I hope I will be even more passionate in my career choice.

  3. Nature of Work • Conduct scientific studies of behavior and brain function • Collect information through observations, interviews, surveys, and other methods • Research and identify behavioral or emotional patterns • Test for patterns that will help them better understand and predict behavior • Use their knowledge to increase understanding among individuals and groups

  4. Working Conditions • Mental: working with others’ minds • Indoor: sitting in a comfortable room/office • Hours: if you work in an office then you work full-time schedules, at home then you set your own hours

  5. Training, Qualification, Advancement • Doctoral degree, Ph.D. in psychology, Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree, master’s degree in psychology • I plan on going to Michigan University • High school classes to take: psychology, AP psychology, sociology

  6. Job Outlook/Employment • Job employment rate: projected to grow 12% from 2012 to 2022 • Find a job: here in Michigan, in California or in New york, really depending on where I decide to live • Place: start out at a clinic or community treatment center, maybe then move on to working at my house

  7. Earnings • Median salary: $69,280-$90,020 • Lifestyle goal 1: live in a two story house (cost: about $185,000) • Lifestyle goal 2: drive a Dodge Charger 2014 (cost: about $27,401-$46,258) • Lifestyle goal 3: own a cabin around Caseville, MI; Alpena, MI; or Oscoda, MI (cost: about $90,000+)

  8. Actress • Responsibilities: • Read scripts and meet with agents and other professionals before accepting a role • Audition in front of directors and producers • Research their character’s personal traits and circumstances to portray them more authentically to an audience • Memorize their lines • Rehearse their lines and performance, including movement on stage or in front of the camera, with other actors • Perform the role, following the director’s directions • Many actors have dramatic education, some have bachelors degrees although no degree is required • Job outlook: projected to grow 4% from 2012 to 2022 • Pay: median hourly wage: from $8.92-$90

  9. Summary After researching my career, I am still interested in this field. I look forward to having the amazing feeling of helping people solve their issues the most. I am least looking forward to having to do long scientific research. Through this research, I’ve learned a lot; such as the degree(s) I will need to partake in this field. I also learned the pay for this career.
