  1. T300 ShowcaseRecruiting Overview • Process varies greatly between DI, II and III and even varies across conferences within a division. • Players should become familiar with the recruiting timelines and build their individual plans based on their schools of interest. ( Overview of timelines emailed to all attendees in advance of event) • Due to NCAA regulations, the college coaches here today cannot talk specifically about their school, but they can speak to their division and their conference. They are not permitted to directly promote their own university. • We may not get to answer all questions. Feel free to contact us after the event for additional help.

  2. Recruiting - General • How early are you starting your recruiting process? • When are you doing the majority of your recruiting? Are you just as active in the fall as you are in the summer? How about the winter?? • When should student/athletes begin researching and visiting schools? • How is the recruiting timeline different for division I, II and III • When can a coach contact me by email? By phone? How is this different by division? • Does it help athletes to attend camps/clinics where your staff is onsite? How do I choose which camps to attend? There are so many…

  3. Athlete • What do coaches look for in a prospective student/athlete? • How much recruiting is done during high school season? • How often should I email my top choice schools? As a junior, sophomore, or freshmen? How often should I call? • Can you describe a typical day for a women's lacrosse student athlete at your school? (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) • How does time commitment vary from DI, II and III • How would you advise me to be seen by my top choices? • If I had a previous injury, how does that effect the selection process?

  4. Parental Involvement • What role should parents play in the recruiting process? (Anything specific parents should be doing to assist their child in the recruiting process? Anything specific we should not do?) • How much talking should a parent be doing during a meeting with a college coach? • Will the coaches include the parents as soon as the discussions turn to the subject of finances, or is the player expected to have an understanding of the financial concerns? • Have you (or a colleague you know) ever stopped recruiting a player due to the parent? • What role should parents play once they become student-athletes?

  5. Grades & SATs/ACTs • What are your thoughts on the SAT/ACT and the recruiting timeline? • If the student/athlete takes SATs early, and post an early score, is that the one that dictates a “yes” or “no” for an early verbal? • Would the coach prefer to know the SAT/ACT score prior to it being reported to school? • What range of GPA’s do girls need to get into the different tier colleges? Ivy, Patriot, NESAC? How is this different for an athlete than a regular admission student? • Is there a minimum academic standard set for the NCAA DI, II and III • How early will colleges be looking at transcripts? Do I have time to get my grades up?

  6. Scholarship QuestionsAcademic • Do academic scholarships vary by division or by school? • Do you need straight A’s to get an academic scholarship? • Is it true that academic aid is sometimes equal to or even greater than athletic aid? • Do schools combine athletic and academic scholarships? Is this true for all divisions? • Are coaches involved in decisions regarding academic aid? • At what types of schools am I likely to maximize academic aid?

  7. Scholarship QuestionsAthletic • Can you help us get a better grasp in understanding athletic scholarship opportunities by division? • Please explain the misconception of a “full ride” (what exactly does “I got a scholarship mean?) • How do Ivy League schools compete when they aren’t able to give scholarships? • Are scholarships guaranteed for 4 years? What are some reasons that a scholarship may be reduced? Or not repeated year after year??

  8. Terminology • Contact • What does “contact” mean in terms of recruiting? • When/how is contact allowed?? Email? Phone? • Are there any restrictions on contact if we are on your campus? • Offer • How do you know when you have an offer? Will it be clear? Does an offer mean money? Will a parent be involved when an offer is made? • How long will you have to make a decision once an offer is made? • Verbal Commitment • What specifically constitutes a “verbal commitment”? Is it binding? • How do players verbally commit so early in the process? • How do players give verbal commitments prior to taking their SAT’s? • Can we ask that a verbal offer be put in writing?
