Linkedin • Launched in May 2003 • Has 150 million professionals networked (50:50 M/F) • 1.3m Small Businesses • Known as Facebook for Grown-ups (or suits) • Host a CV online and connect to other professionals in your organisation, previous employers or industry sector • Allows you to be introduced to people you could never meet • Used for job searching
Linkedin – how to use • Use to make connections to decision makers in target organisation • Research your target companies and individuals • Keep an eye on your competitors • Share your content with like minded individuals • Become a thought leader in your field

Where to start? • Create an account at linkedin.com (if not already got one) • Make sure your profile is complete as possible • Identify and connect to people you know to start to build your network • Research which groups to join
How to achieve a complete profile • Use a professional image • Create a compelling headline • List your current position and at least 2 past positions • Complete the summary section • Complete the skills and expertise section • Give recommendations first • Complete the interests and groups section Hint – you will need 3 recommendations before your profile can be marked as complete
Optimise your profile to get found by contacts Edit your websites – you can have up to 3 Add your Twitter account Edit your public URL to make it personal to you
Getting you network started • Connect with your direct contacts
Add new connections • Browse the networks of your immediate networks by visiting their profile • Use the search function to look for individuals by name and/or company • Join groups that your target market join • Watch your network’s interactions and connections
Increasing your network • Check you contacts from your email accounts – are they on Linkedin? • Connect with people you meet in the groups • Add people you meet at external networking events • Cross link with other connections on other social media networks
