  2. Forecast Requirements • Customers determines that certain wind conditions are needed to complete testing objectives. • Wind criteria will vary for different testing locations at DPG • Typical wind requirements at Target-S; Wind Direction 140º ±20º, Wind Speed 2-8 m/s

Example Forecast • Forecast for Today:  Mostly Cloudy, with a few breaks in the clouds this afternoon.  The partial clearing should allow for sufficient heating this afternoon to trigger continued showers and thunderstorms across the area.  Winds this afternoon and into the evening should remain southerly from 2-7 m/s, with periods of 8-16 m/s and some higher gusts associated with thunderstorm activity.  Most of the thunderstorm activity should dissipate by 2 to 3 am.  Afternoon high, 84oF to 87oF

Factors Influencing DPG Winds • Large Scale High and Low Pressure system locations and orientation, (Fronts) • Squall lines, Thunderstorms, Thunderstorm outflow • Mountain/valley circulation, slope winds, Salt Flat Breeze. • Soil moisture, nocturnal inversion strength, cloud cover, and topography.

  5. Forecasting Tools • Climatology (MAQSAP, or MySQL queries of SAMS Database) • 4DWX (model, satellite, radar, etc) – JVIS, MRRD, Web Interface, Met-Box • Websites – JAWIN, NWS • HPAC Modeling using medoc data. • Current Data – SAMS, PWIDS, 32m Tower, Sodar, Profiler, Soundings
