A broken matzah... “bread of affliction”
Telling the tale And you will say to your son in that day, It is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.
Blessed are you, o Lord our God who extracts bread from the earth. Blessed are you, o Lord our God who has sanctified us through his precepts, and commanded us to eat unleavened bread.
Matzah, this strange flat and hard, crunchy bread was the food that our forefathers ate when they fled. They didn't have time to make something more tasty like chocolate cake or cherry-cream pastry, because their departure wasever so hasty .The trip out of Egypt was all so haphazard ,they left mountains of matzah-crumbs all through the desert. done.
Hillel’s sandwich Hillel, while the Temple stood, made sandwiches he thought were good.They had no jam or mozzarelly, tuna-fish or vermicelli--just matzah, maror and some meat. He thought they were a super treat (but there are lots of thingsI'd rather eat).
