WHEN ENTERING THE CLASSROOM IN THE MORNINGS • Wait quietly for the teacher. • Empty book bags and hang them on the back of your chairs. • Order lunch or put pack lunches away. • Sharpen 2 pencils • Begin Word of the Day work • Listen to morning announcements, no talking during announcements.
WHEN A TEACHER IS TEACHING • Remain silent. • Raise your hand to speak and wait to be recognized. • Remain in your seat. • Have needed materials on your desk. • Hands on desk, feet still, and eyes on me!
WHEN STUDENTS ARE WORKING • Work quietly without disturbing others. • Work cooperatively in your groups • When work is completed, work on other assignments, when all assignments are complete, make a smart choice.
HOW TO TREAT OTHER STUDENTS • Stay positive with your peers. • Sustain from name-calling or teasing. • Respect yourself, classmates, and teachers. • Respect the property of others. • D.T.U.I. (Don’t touch unless invited)
LINE-UP • Line leader/Door Holder stays in front of the line. • Door holder holds the door open for the rest of the class and turns off lights. • Walk and stay about an arm’s length away from the person in front of you. • Walk in a single file line on the right hand side. • Walk at a quick, but safe speed.
FIRE DRILL PROCEDURES • Stand-up behind your desk, push in your chair, as soon as you hear the alarm! • Observe silence! • Walk quickly, but at a safe speed. • Exit the room in single file, through the hall door. • Go to class designated area. • If you are not in the classroom, go directly to the designated area.
BATHROOM AND WATER FOUNTAIN • Use when needed after permission is given. • Knock first. • Be neat and clean-up after yourself.
MOVING AROUND THE SCHOOL • Walk in a single file line. • Stay on the sidewalks at all times. • Stay with your class/teacher. • If you are not with your teacher, act properly.
CLASSROOM CLEAN-UP • Every student is responsible for their desk (inside and out),the floor around your desk and your cubby. • Clean-up any areas that you work at, at tables, computers, on the carpet, etc. • Failure to keep our room clean will result in loss of privileges.
Consequences OUR BEHAVIOR • Disrespectful behavior toward teachers or students will not be tolerated. • BDS has a zero tolerance for bullying, verbal or physical. • Student will not be given warnings for bullying. • Parents will be contacted through either a phone call or parent alert. Student’s Negative Behavior: 1st offense – Verbal Warning & Loss of tickets/priviledges 2nd offense – Verbal Counseling & loss of tickets/priviledges 3rd offense – Parent Notification: Parent Alert, Parent Note, Phone call or Administrative Counseling
CLASSROOM JOBS • Classroom jobs are privileges and can be taken away if the student is not responsible. • The jobs will change each month or week • Some jobs will have academic requirements.
WRITTEN WORK • All written work needs a heading, which will include your name, date, subject, and page number. • Written work should be completed to the best of your ability or it will be done over.
HOMEWORK • Every day you will write your homework assignments in your planner. • It is your responsibility to write down and keep track of these assignments. • If you miss an assignment, excused or unexcused, you will be expected to complete the assignment. • Students will be given ample time for completion of missed assignments. • Your parents will be contacted via phone, letter, or email if you’re not completing assignments.
PLANNERS • Planners will be used for communication purposes. • Planners will be checked for communication everyday. • Students will use planners to record homework assignments. • Important papers will be in homework folders. • Signatures in the planner are required each night!
READING LOGS • Student will be required to read independently for 30 minutes every night Monday –Friday. • Students must log their reading in the planner or a Reading Log and Parents must sign every night. The more you read, the more you succeed!

Grades • LETTER GRADESS, N, E, & U • 90-100 = A S = satisfactory work (80%-100%) • 80-89 = B N = need improvement (70%-79%) • 70-79 = C U = unsatisfactory work (60%-69%) • 60-69 = D E = exceeds expectations 100% or more • 50-59 = F I = Incomplete • students will have a limited time to complete all missing assignments.
Graded Papers • Students graded papers will be sent home each week in your child’s Home Folder. • Parents will sign that they received and reviewed each packet and will return them to school on Mondays.
FCAT AKA the FKITTY! • You will take a Reading, Math, and Writing assessment test based on the Sunshine State Standards. Florida Writes - March FCAT READING & MATH April 11th
