  2. CVAC Survey 2007 • 75 people were surveyed • 29 were under 18 (39% of total) • 23 were aged 18-24 (31% of total) • 23 were over 25 (31% of total) • Four questions were asked

  3. The questions asked in the survey • Do you think it matters if a species becomes extinct? • Yes, a lot • Yes, a little • Not really Respondents were also asked: Is your age:  Under 18  18-25  26-35  35-50  51-70  Over 70

  4. Question 2 • Do you care more about wildlife in the UK or overseas? • In the UK • Overseas • Both the same

  5. Question 3 • Tiger bones and rhino horn are used in traditional oriental medicine and the species are facing extinction as a result. Do you think their use is justified? • Yes • Yes, because people are entitled to their own cultural beliefs • No

  11. Conclusion • A significant minority of people surveyed do not think it matters much if a species becomes extinct. This issue needs to be addressed in our educational and marketing campaigns. • All age groups, but particularly the Under 18s, need to be made more aware of the decline in species in our own country – e.g. several species of birds are showing an alarming decline in numbers.
