The questions asked in the survey • Do you think it matters if a species becomes extinct? • Yes, a lot • Yes, a little • Not really Respondents were also asked: Is your age: Under 18 18-25 26-35 35-50 51-70 Over 70
Question 2 • Do you care more about wildlife in the UK or overseas? • In the UK • Overseas • Both the same
Question 3 • Tiger bones and rhino horn are used in traditional oriental medicine and the species are facing extinction as a result. Do you think their use is justified? • Yes • Yes, because people are entitled to their own cultural beliefs • No
Question 4 • People support our organisation for a number of reasons. Please tell us which area of work is of most interest to you. Protecting endangered species Protecting the environment Campaigning on environmental issues Working with communities to promote sustainable livelihoods
Conclusion • A significant minority of people surveyed do not think it matters much if a species becomes extinct. This issue needs to be addressed in our educational and marketing campaigns. • All age groups, but particularly the Under 18s, need to be made more aware of the decline in species in our own country – e.g. several species of birds are showing an alarming decline in numbers.
