Longtown: progress report… • What’s happened so far? • What happening now? • What are the next steps?
First stage of consultation now completed 80 discussion booklets returned from groups and individuals Many comments on posters in community centre, library and Spar Estimate about 300 people have been involved so far 850 hits on website Consultation Stage 1: response
Range of different views expressed but lots of consistent themes A summary of comments on each facility is included in the 2nd LMF newsletter Complete anonymised database of comments will be available at cumbria.gov.uk/longtown Consultation Stage 1: results
What’s happening now? • LMF project team using consultation feedback to shape the development of proposals for the future • Creating “block plans” with possible ideas for how the site might be used in future • We’ll consult on these once they are ready
Datesand decisions… • Project board recommended changes to original timeline – make sure we get things right • July – council cabinet/executive will be asked to make key decisions about school buildings and proposals for change
Key decision 1… • Retain or demolish the school building • Decision based on: • Your comments in the consultation • Whether there is a viable need for the building • How much they would cost to keep running
Key decision 2… • Approve, or not, development of fully costed and worked through plan for the site • Decision based on: • Community response to second phase of consultation • Recommendations made by LMF project team
Next steps… • 3rd newsletter to come before July • Second phase of consultation on draft proposals for change on the Lochinvar site (prior to the key decisions) – method to be decided • Neighbourhood Forum in July • Councils decide on future direction for the project • Will take time – unlikely any planning application could be submitted before autumn 2009
