Assessment Validation • What is it? • Why is it so important? • What do teachers need to do?
What is it? • Annual cycle of continuous improvement to ensure assessment is fair, valid, reliable, flexible and consistent • Peer review of assessment procedures, methods and decisions within and across RTO’s and with industry • Documented process
Why is it so important? • To ensure that we do the “right thing” by our students • To maintain the reputation and value of the qualification the students get from us • To meet our obligation as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to comply with Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) Standards
What do teachers have to do? • Comply with policies and procedures related to assessment • Participate in the assessment validation cycle
How do I comply? • Issue and explain the Assessment Plan at the beginning of the course, including when and how learners will be assessed • Participate in formal assessment validation meetings at least annually.
What else do I have to do? • Pre- Assessment: check assessment methods and tools with colleagues • Then: use assessment tools, give feedback to students, collect feedback from students, keep examples of completed assessments
What else do teachers have to do? (2) • Post Assessment: check assessment decisions etc with colleagues; modify methods and tools for next time as needed • And keep a record of what you do
