Erasmus A’dam 1989 • Nog een nieuw programma (“2de golf”) • Academische erkenning nog niet volledig OK… • postgraduaat: na mijn gewone studies "Germaanse talen" • 3 maand aan de VU A’dam (NL) • Literatuurwetenschappen • Lerarenopleiding • Theorie & Praktijk => typisch voor NL systeem • “Vrij” = een 'confessionele' universiteit (waarden...)

Sociale Ervaring • Zelfde taal, en toch buitenlander… • niet begrepen/begrijpen => wederzijds begrip • nationale identiteit verkennen (> ook in literatuur) • 150 persoonlijke contacten // nationale ambassadeur • Onafhankelijkheid, eenzaamheid… • 1ste ervaring zelfstandig & in buitenland • rijk cultureel leven in A’dam (vnl. theater) • Integratie moeilijk voor zo'n korte periode • 6 maand/1 semester = betere duurtijd

Academische ervaring • Universiteit: academisch systeem verschilt • zelf-studie, essays, kleinere groepen, … • reflectie over systemen & praktijken@home • Middelbae School // Lerarenopleiding • nog een groter cultuurschok! • Observaties + enige practijk in de klas • Voor eens waren de 'vooroordelen' wel juist…: • Zeer verbaal, minder discipline, • Meer (pro)actief & onafhankelijk

Professionele impact • Europese Administratieve loopbaan • i.p.v. onderwijs, journalistiek of academisch • Erasmus Student Network-Ghent • sociale integratie gaststudenten UGent • Winnaar EC Erasmus-prijs in 1994 • Central & Oost-Europese Transiatie • Herenigd Europa (the making of…) • Concreet voorbeeld Europese solidariteit

  8. 'Erasmus: changing lives, opening minds for 25 years' • 3 miljoen studenten sinds 1987 • 33 landen: EU27 + Kroatië, Noorwegen, Ijsland, Liechtenstein, Zwitserland & Turkije • 2011-12: > 250,000 studenten • 3 miljard € voor Erasmus (2007-13) • 2014-2020: Erasmus for All => budget??

  9. Enkele bedenkingen anno 2012 • Ook de kleinste ‘Erasmus’ is een volwaardige Europese belevenis! • Men kan ter plaatse (verankerd) blijven én volwaardige Europees georiënteerd zijn… • Véél is veranderd, maar ook nog flink wat werk aan de winkel => Erasmus Manifesto
