Introduction Charles Pearson • The 2013 Michigan FSAE Competition • Competition Scoring: Static Events o Design Report o Cost Report o Presentation Dynamic Events o Acceleration o Skidpad o Autocross o Endurance
Problem Statement Stephen Christiansen • Design and fabricate a competitive car while keeping in compliance of the FSAE rules. These are some of the key concepts for the competition: • Strength • Weight • Safety • Assembly • Expense • Innovation
Aerodynamics TeamChristopher Caulkins • Designed and fabricated side-pod mold • A reversible female mold was used • 4 ply of fiberglass under structural foam supports with additional 4 ply fiberglass will be used to provide a lightweight rigid side-pod
Aerodynamics TeamKevin Kelly • Designed and fabricated nose cone mold • Mixed 2-part expanding foam • Used rectangular box for mold • Large portions carved away • Rasp/file to refine curves
Aerodynamics TeamAaron Hopkins • Designed and fabricated flat body panels using an advanced vacuum bagging technique • 4 ply fiberglass was used for body panels • 10 ply fiberglass was used for underbody panels • Female molds were used to allow smooth finish on outside
Chassis TeamAndrew Myers • 1" Chromolly Steel tube frame • Double wishbone suspension with adjustable camber, toe, and caster angle. • Coil over Penske shocks • Custom Aluminum rockers Motion ratios: Front 1:1 Rear 1:1.25 • Front & rear uprights and spindles • Stock Wilwood brakes with custom laser cut rotors
Chassis TeamThomas Guglielmo • Fabricated rear control arms • Added Anti-penetration bars for driver safety • Fabricated front & rear rockers • Attached front push rods • Mounted shocks and springs • Assembled steering linkage • Designed pedal assembly
Chassis TeamKamodGautam • Help install different fabricated components to the chassis. • Prepare cost report for the chassis. • Put measurements into SolidWorks. • Up-to-date with attenuator report, design spec sheet, and cost report
Powertrain TeamAndrew Rowe • Fuel map from 2012 car improved • Increased performance and efficiency • This provides a baseline to be used on this car • Will need minor update when applied to new car
