New Qualifications – New Opportunities. Lesson Two: Thursday, 23rd January. “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.” Martin Luther King Jr. • Learning Intention: • I will be able to identify the core skills that I will develop as part of the new curriculum and explain: • What subjects will help me to develop these skills? • How will these skills support me in life and work?
What skills will I develop through the New Qualifications? • The Curriculum for Excellence focuses on developing skills for learning, life and work. • You are developing important core skills for learning, life and work in each of your subjects. • In S3, all pupils must identify and evaluate their skills when completing their S3 profile. • S4 pupils will have to be confident in discussing their skills in preparation for completing university/college applications, or when applying for a part-time job. • The earlier you start identifying these skills and making connections across subjects, the more you will develop your skills and the more confident you will be when discussing them.
Discussion Point School is a place where you can begin to develop important skills – skills that you will possibly continue to develop for the rest of your life. • What important skills do you think you need to develop in school in order to prepare you for life and work? • Discuss or make a list in your groups.
