What is it? Emergency preparedness Means “being prepared for all kinds of emergencies, being able to respond in time of crisis to save lives and property, and to help a community, or even a nation, return to normal life after a disaster occurs” (BSA, 2009) Types of Emergencies Earthquakes, outbreaks, floods, explosions, wildfires, hurricanes, etc (CDC, 2010).
Emergency Preparedness Emergency management, emergency preparedness, and disaster services are common throughout the United States (BSA, 2010) . It prepares people for emerging and unexpected public health threats before and after they occur. When disasters occur, there are individuals, organizations, and professionals who are trained to respond to such disasters to improve public health outcomes (CDC, 2010).
