What is the Amazing Technology Race? • 10 stations of equipment and websites that are available to you at GES • Learn how to use the equipment and websites • Brainstorm ideas for using them in your teaching and with your students
Instructions • Follow your clue to your first station. • Complete the challenge by following the directions found in the room. Take a copy of each handout and place in your Amazing Race folder. • After completing the challenge, place a “completed” sticker on your team’s passport. • Get your clue to the next challenge (envelopes are labeled by team #... be sure to get the right one!) • Repeat! • Complete as many challenges as you can in the allotted time.
Tip Some challenges list 2 rooms as the location. • If there is a team already working in one of the rooms, choose the other room. • If both rooms have a team, pick the room that has 2 stations set up. • There is enough equipment in both room for a total of 3 teams.
Amazing Race Server Folder • My Computer • GESShare (L:) • Teacher • _Amazing Race • Team #
Tips Some rooms have information on the white boards… look for it. If the computer screen is blank, press the space bar to wake it up. Computers are logged in as GESTeacher. If you have to re-log in for some reason, use GESTeacher and password “instructor”.
Help Sheet Follow the instructions on the help sheets carefully. Several stations require you to do specific things so that the computers are ready for the group after you.
Participation All team members should be participating in each challenge. Don’t just let the people that are good with technology do everything. If you already know how to do a task, coach someone else on your team who doesn’t (tell them what to do… don’t do it for them!) The purpose is for everyone to get some hand-on experience!
Team Reflections Page • At the end of the allotted time, each team will fill out a “Reflections” page on the Amazing Technology Race Wiki. • Each team member has a copy of this. • As you complete each challenge, you can take notes on this page to make entering your reflections at the end easier.
