Engineering Operations • New hazards in the NTC associated with upgrade activities: • Ladders, scaffolds, man-lifts. • Cranes, rigging, forklifts. • Welding, burning, grinding. • Activated/Contaminated radiological work. • Electrical • Confined spaces. • Chemical use. • Eye hazards. • Uneven work surfaces. • A Health and Safety Plan (HASP) and Work Control Center Procedures in force. • Address the control of hazards • Maintain configuration control • Coordinate required permits, technical procedures, etc.
Engineering Operations • Heavy Construction started this winter: • TF turnbuckles and clevis pads have been ground away.
Engineering Operations • Space has been cleared for the 2nd Neutral Beam.
Engineering Operations • Additional rib welding completed on the upper/lower domes. • New machine platforms installed.
Engineering Operations • In-vessel metrology for NB armor installed and brackets welded in place. • Passive plates were reinstalled in April.
Engineering Operations • Outer TF coils #7 and #11 have been removed.
Engineering Operations • Platform modifications/usage required for the TF work
Engineering Operations • Bay J-K nozzles have been cut away
Engineering Operations • Upcoming Vessel Modifications: • Installation of In-vessel stiffeners at Bays J-K. • Ongoing welding of new TF Clevis pads onto VV. • Weld the new Bay J-K Cap onto the vacuum vessel in early July for the new NB port. • Vacuum vessel cuts at Bay L in mid-July for MPTS. • Vacuum leak checking • Remove platforms at Bays J-K-L in preparation for neutral beam work
Engineering Operations • Neutral Beam work in the NTC: • Penetrations into NTC for cryo/electrical systems. • Move Beam-Line into NTC in early August. • Move lid/cryo-panels, 90” flange, torus and ion source interfaces into NTC in Aug/Sept • Decontamination of both the NTC and the TTC • Installation of beam-line systems and HVE’s throughout the fall.
Engineering Operations • Future NTC Access: • Upon completion of the NB equipment moves, we should be able to provide greater access to the perimeter of the test cell. • Access to the North door will remain limited while assembling/commissioning the NB HVE’s and transmission lines. • Internal and External access to the vessel itself will remain restricted into the spring of 2013 due to ongoing welding of the umbrella legs, PF supports, etc.
