SDCOE Designated Subjects: An Historical Look • 1980’s – 1995: Guidelines based program, services provided and funded by SDCOE ROP • 1995: Standards Based Program, services provided and funded by SDCOE ROP, ROP Districts, & Ad. Ed. Districts • 2007: Due to Flexibility, ROP District Contributions ended, and Ad. Ed District contributions continued until 2016 • 2014: SDCOE ROP dissolved. No longer funding any credentialing services. ROP Mgt Staff reassigned to Learning and Leadership Services. • July1, 2015: Designated Subjects Program Services assigned to HR • November, 2015: Coordinator hired to develop cost recovery DS model
Designated Subjects Transition Timeline • All UCSD Coursework must be completed by June 30th ; any coursework completed after June 30th will not be accepted towards earning the Clear Credential • SDCOE Coursework begins July 11th; registration begins June 1st • Online Courses only • Up to 4 courses needed, depending on credential type • Cost: Through SDCOE - $2300 for all 4 courses • University credits extra through Brandman University
How did we get here? • Surveys: Curriculum and Program based surveys were sent to Consortium Partners, Mentors, and District Personnel • Better communication with SDCOE • More Professional Development • Coursework to have immediate practical relevance to teachers • Options for taking courses throughout the three years of Preliminary • More Classroom Management • Lesson Plans and assessment/rubrics • More assistance for working with students/adults who have special needs • Create coursework with Induction model in mind • Multiple Opportunities to take courses • Options for obtaining Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees
What We want to deliver: To Teachers: • Skills that are explicitly taught, modeled and have practical, immediate application in the classroom (I do, We do, You do, Students do!) • Engaging, Project Based Learning (a step away from read and respond model) • Integrating technology in the classroom (through coursework) • Coursework/Mentoring with Induction model in mind • Multiple Opportunities to take courses • Options for obtaining Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees To Consortium Partners: • Teachers prepared for the Designated Subjects Classroom • Quick and accurate responses • One-stop shop
