Science Our topics are… • Nature of Science • Chemistry • Motion, Forces, & Energy • Sound & Light • Technology/Engineering • Environmental Science At the beginning of each unit, students will receive a “Target Sheet” Target Sheets will… • State the learning objectives • State important vocabulary • Drive our instruction *Supported with Prentice Hall Science Explorer Textbooks & Workbooks, also available online

  8. Purpose of Grading: • To communicate with students, parents and others a measure of student achievement in regards to content standards • To provide feedback and guidance in regards to student learning

  9. The Purpose of Homework: • To prepare for lessons (priming) • To practice or review content or skills • To formatively assess what students know or can do by applying, extending or integrating their understanding through projects or other assignments • Sometimes…..the “flipped classroom”

  10. The Grade Book: 3 Categories • Formative= (F) Feedback forlearning • Daily work • Homework • Activities • 0% of Final Grade

  11. The Grade Book: • Summative (S)= A measure of achievement • Assessments that occur at the end of a unit or learning target • More than just paper and pencil exams • 100% of Final Grade

  16. Wolf Ridge January 6 – 10, 2014 & January 13 – 17, 2014

  17. Purpose • To provide an environmental educational experience for all students to grow socially, emotionally, and academically. • Classes focus on team building, cultural history, environmental issues, risk-taking challenges, etc.

  18. Dates • January 6 – 10, • Gold & Silver Teams • January 13 – 17, • Blue & Green Teams

  19. Budget • Last Year’s Cost = $240 • Fundraisers & Scholarships will be available • More Information to come in November

  20. Parent Chaperones • VERY IMPORTANT! • Help monitor students in classes & dorm building • Make connections with kids • Participate in classes • Roughly 6-8 parents per team  • Willing to carry & administer epi-pen • Willing to pay their fee • Medical Professionals are helpful Fill-out application and background check that will be sent home with the first Wolf Ridge letter. DUE - Wednesday, October 16.

Health Information • All students need to have a Student Release and Medical Form & Medication Form completed and signed. • ALL medications need to have a physicians medication order. • Please sign-off on Tylenol, Advil, and Tums • If you have medical questions, please contact our district nurse, Irene Merz. These forms will be sent home in the first Wolf Ridge Update and will be due in Late November

  22. Wolf Ridge Updates • The first update will be sent home on Friday, September 27* • All information will be available on the CMS website • Wolf Ridge Information Night (for Parents) – Monday, November 18 @ 7 PM

  23. Ice Cream Time: Join your child in the café for Ice Cream. The Core team teachers are in the four corners. Encore teachers are in the middle.
